How far in advance should I order my wedding cake?

You should order your wedding cake as soon as possible after you choose the date and book the venue for your reception. We suggest that you have your cake ordered at least 6-12 months in advance of your wedding date. Something Blue Bakery limits the number of wedding cakes they make any given weekend, so the sooner you reserve your date, the better!

Is the tasting and consultation free?

Yes, wedding cake tastings and consultations are free and by appointment only. You may choose three flavors of cake and icing to sample at your consultation. There is a fee for more than three flavors. Call Something Blue Bakery at (765) 588-6212 to schedule a time to meet with the decorator. Consultations are available Tuesday- Thursday evenings after 5:00pm and most Saturdays.

How many people can join me in the tasting?

Due to the size of our bakery, we request your party not be bigger than 4 people.

What flavors can I try at the tasting?

We offer three cake and icing flavors of your choice for sampling. However, additional flavors may be purchased the Flavors page has a full list. If you do not see the flavor you are looking for, just give the bakery a call at (765) 588-6212 and we will certainly try to accommodate you.

What if I can't make my consultation appointment?

Please call the Bakery and we will gladly reschedule your appointment.

What will happen at the consultation?

You and your party will meet with the decorator to discuss the size and style of your cake. We invite you to bring photos, fabric and color swatches, invitations, bridal gown pictures, or anything that shows the vision of your wedding. Something Blue Bakery has a portfolio of wedding cakes we have created, along with cake magazines for you to look through. We also have several wedding cake displays in the shop.

The flavors of cake and icing that you have chosen will be available for you to sample. The decorator will quote you a price and complete a contract for you. If you want to reserve your date, a 50% deposit is due upon signing of the contract. The balance is due two weeks before your wedding. If you do not wish to sign the contract at the consultation, your cake design and information will be held in our file for future use. However, the date will remain open for other brides to book.

Do I have to make a deposit at the tasting?

If you want to secure your date, a 50% non-refundable deposit is due along with a signed contract. The final payment will be due no later than two weeks prior to your wedding date.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Cash, MasterCard, Visa, Discovery, and checks. There is a $25 fee for all returned checks in addition to bank fees.

Can I mix flavors and fillings on my wedding cake?

Absolutely!

What fillings do you offer?

Our cakes are very moist and delicious all on their own. However, fillings are available and listed on our Flavors page.

Do you offer sheet cakes?

Yes. All of our sheet cakes are two layers with buttercream in between. Flavors and fillings are listed on our Flavors page.

What is the difference between buttercream and fondant?

Buttercream is a more traditional icing. It is creamy and decorated with spatulas and piping. Fondant is a sugar-based coverture that is very smooth and easily colored and molded. All of our fondant cakes have a layer of buttercream underneath.

Can I use fresh flowers on my cake?

Yes, the fresh flowers will need to be provided by your florist. However, we prefer to put the fresh flowers on your cake. Please understand that Something Blue Bakery cannot be responsible for damages that occur if someone other than the decorator puts the flowers on your wedding cake. We also cannot be held responsible for flower quality, freshness, color, or food safety regarding non-edible fresh flowers.

What if I have a cake topper?

If you have a cake topper, please let us know. We will need the cake topper in advance to check it for weight and stability. It may need extra support.

Do you rent wedding cake stands and cupcake towers?

Yes, rental prices vary and a cash or credit card deposit is required. All rentals must be returned in good condition and in the time frame agreed upon in order to receive your deposit refund.

Do you offer wedding cupcakes?

Yes, cupcakes are available. We also rent cupcake towers.

Do you offer groom's cakes?

Yes. The groom's cake should be ordered well in advance of the wedding date, preferable with your wedding cake, in order to assure availability.

Do you offer cookie favors?

Yes, cookie favors are available for $3.00 each and are a special touch for showers, bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinners, welcome baskets, wedding reception guests and bridal brunches. Wrappers and ribbon are available for an additional charge.

What if the number of my guests changes?

At the time of the final payment, two weeks before your wedding date, we will need your final head count. If your guest count is much higher than originally anticipated, we can always provide sheet cakes for more servings.

When do you deliver my wedding cake?

Usually 2 to 2 1/2 hours before the reception begins.

The bride or her designee is responsible for ensuring that there is someone available at the time of the delivery and that a secure, stable, and level table, able to support the weight of the cake, is set up. If the table is to be skirted or otherwise covered, it must be prepared before delivery.

What if I want to pick up my wedding cake at the bakery?

Something Blue Bakery strongly advises against pickups due to the delicate nature of wedding cakes. However, if it is your desire to pick up your cake, we cannot be held responsible for damages or temperature related changes to the cake after it leaves the shop.

What if I am having an outdoor wedding?

Due to the effects of outdoor weather conditions- wind blowing, dirt, leaves, insects, tables on uneven ground, Something Blue Bakery cannot be held responsible for anything that should happen to the cake once delivery and setup is completed. Please note that direct sunlight and temperature of 75 degrees or higher might have an adverse effect on your cake. We recommend using a fondant-covered cake for outdoor weddings.

How do I save my anniversary topper?

Something Blue Bakery will provide an anniversary topper box when we deliver your wedding cake. As soon as possible, you should place the cake filled topper box in an air-tight container or securely wrap the box with several layers of plastic wrap before freezing. Be sure to let your cake defrost at room temperature. Happy Anniversary!
